Orangette Waffles for National Waffle Day!Kelsey Banfield
Happy National Waffle Day! My friend Julie and I are celebrating waffle day with great gusto. There is so much to love about waffles, why not have a few recipes for those of you who want to celebrate with us. Right? Right! For this waffle recipe I took my inspiration from my favorite candy: chocolate covered orange peels. I took my favorite basic waffle mix and added lots of orange zest and cinnamon then drizzled the fresh stack with plenty of chocolate syrup. The result was a delicious breakfast that tasted just like my favorite candy! I will say these are a special treat without a doubt, I don’t think I’ll be eating pancakes in syrup every day. But, hey, when it’s National Waffle Day why not indulge?!
1 cup whole milk
2 teaspoons freshly grated orange zest
Chocolate syrup for drizzling
1. Whisk together the above ingredients in a bowl until smooth and creamy. Pour the batter on to the hot waffle iron and cook until light brown and toasted. Drizzle with chocolate syrup and serve!
