Oscar Party Drink: "The Social Network" Spicy Appletini!

Spicy Appletini

Cheers to Facebook!..

Here’s a fun Oscar Party drink recipe: The Social Network Spicy Appletini!

If you saw the Best Picture-nominated flick The Social Network,  you’ll remember a swanky scene where Justin Timberlake’s character (Sean Parker) wines and dines Mark Z, his business partner and his girlfriend. The scene starts out with the girlfriend requesting a lime green Appletini – and the night unfolds from there. Appletinis all around. And keep them coming.

So as the 83rd Academy Awards approach this Sunday, you can reach for this Spicy Appletini and toast to a brilliant year for cinema! Grab some of these Oscar appetizer recipes or peruse the Oscar eats slideshow – and get my Oscar Party drink recipe ahead..

This recipe is simple. I take the classic combo recipe for an Appletini of a Sour Apple Mixer plus vodka – and I add some spice to it! Social Network style..

You can use your favorite Sour Apple Mixer – and try to find a strongly brewed ginger ale. Something with some intense spicy ginger flavor. I love Stewart’s brand if you can find it!

The Social Network Spicy Appletini
makes one drink

2 parts vodka
1 part sour apple schnapps or Sour Apple Pucker
1-2 parts ginger ale
dash of cayenne
garnish: tipsy cranberries or maraschino cherries
Splash of lime juice (optional)

In an iced shaker, add vodka, mixer and lime juice.
Shake vigorously.
Strain into a martini glass.
Add a dash of cayenne and your fruit garnish.
Optional: rim the glass in a mixture of salt/sugar/cayenne.

Note: if you don’t have a sour apple mixer you can try to sub apple cider and lime juice. You’ll still get a zingy flavor, although the apple flavor will be a bit warmer and heavy than with the sour apple mixer. And there will be a bit less alcohol content.
