Pink Valentine's Message Heart Pancakes

Valentine's Pink Pancakes

Are you ready for Valentine’s Day? We are! The fun part about this mid-winter holiday is that the kids adore it and it is really all about hearts to them. With my daughter we keep the holiday light and polite with simple crafts, heart-shaped foods, and just a general day of happiness. Instead of indulging her in endless sugary treats we just try to transform her everyday foods instead heart shapes. For example, I made these giant heart pancakes by making our favorite pancake batter, filling the bottom of a small skillet with it, and using a cookie cutter to make them into heart shapes. Then, we wrote fun messages on the top with fruit syrup place in a squeeze bottle. There was really nothing to it and it still made a great breakfast. We’ll definitely be making this again tomorrow!

Valentine’s Message Heart Pancakes

1 batch favorite homemade pancake mix (or whatever pancake mix you have on hand)

Red food paste

Butter for the pan

Valentine’s Message Hearts

1/3 cup maple syrup

1. Mix the pancake batter in a mixing bowl until completely smooth. Then whisk in one or two drops of the red food paste until the desired shade of pink is reached.

2. In an 8-inch skillet melt 1 tablespoon of butter until it coats the bottom of the pan and is softly bubbling. Then, pour in the pancake batter so that it just covers the bottom of the pan. Allow it to cook until bubbles begin to show on the tops of the pancakes. Then, flip the pancakes with a spatula and cook the other side until lightly browned.

3. Remove the pancake to a cutting board and use large or small heart shaped cookie cutters to make heart shapes.

4. Top the pancakes with a message heart and some maple syrup – serve with love!
