My husband is the pumpkin carver in the family. He has carved many a pumpkin from pirate ships to Where the Wild Things Are to Dracula. He’s become quite proficient at it seeing as we have four kids to help carve pumpkins. Me? I stick to my own designs or the simple faces. The most adventurous I get is a Jack Skellington here and there. Who doesn’t love Jack?
When we are looking for designs, we first bought a pumpkin carving kit. We found it essential to get all those tiny knives and tools, and so finding a stencil was easy, but now that we own the kit, finding new stencils and pumpkin carving designs year after year can be difficult. Here are some of our favorite free pumpkin carving patterns that we’ve found over the years.
First, check out Brooke’s pumpkin carving roundup, as she has some great ideas from Pumpkin Lady to Parenting Magazine to Disney designs!
Spookmaster | They offer a few free designs and a rotating daily one. If you subscribe, you get a ton more, but I’m all for looking for the free ones.
About.com | If you’re looking for a simple face, this is the place for you. These stencils are easy even for little hands to tackle, which means less work for the parents!
Hershey’s | This chocolate company has some fantastic pumpkin carving stencils available with designs ranging from easy skeletons to intricate owls.
Pumpkin Masters | Like Spookmaster, they offer a few free pumpkin carving designs. The Good Bite Moon is my favorite!
History Channel | Perfect for the historian, the patriotic or just for plain ol’ fun with designs like the American flag, Benjamin Franklin and more.
Dots | Of course I had to include a Jack Skellington. He’s my favorite!
If you struggle with pumpkin carving, you’ll definitely want to check these out. Having a stencil can make your pumpkin look fabulous in no time at all! Just stick to the easy ones unless you have the patience to tackle an intricate pattern!
