Raw Chocolate Banana Shake
makes 2 shakes
2 cups frozen ripe bananas, chopped before freezing
2 heaping spoonfuls of raw cacao powder
2-3 Tbsp raw salted almond butter
1 1/2cups raw almond milk - recipe here
2-3 Tbsp maple syrup (sweeten to taste – really ripe bananas may need less sweetener)
1/4 cup crushed ice
optional: top with raw coconut cream whipped topping — recipe here
note: if you don’t have “frozen” bananas, you can still make this shake — but add in another scoop of ice and expect to have more of a smoothie consistency, rather than a frozen shake.
Non-raw substitutes: you can use traditional cocoa powder in place of the cacao. You can also use any variety of milk in place of the homemade almond milk. Soy milk works well.
