Red, White and ... Blueberry-Banana Sorbet

So technically there’s nothing red or white about this sorbet. But it’s kinda catchy in the spirit of the upcoming holiday right?

A couple of summers ago I purchased an ice cream maker. I had high hopes for this ice cream maker but for some reason, I’ve only actually made a couple of ice cream recipes since I bought it. Well, I’ve decided things are going to change. We are going to make ice cream ladies and gentlemen.

Or sorbet.

I was overcome with the urge for something fruity and cold one hot afternoon and while perusing none other than the ice cream bible The Perfect Scoop (by David Lebovitz) found this incredibly easy sorbet to put together. I am pretty sure that you will have all 5 of these ingredients on hand to make this…and hopefully an ice cream maker.

Blueberry – Banana Sorbet
Recipe from The Perfect Scoop (titled Banana-Blueberry Sorbet in book)

1 banana, peeled
2 cups fresh (or frozen) blueberries
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon

In a blender, combine chunks of banana, blueberries, water, sugar and lemon and process until smooth. You’ll still see some dark specks of blueberry and that’s okay.

Place blender pitcher into the refrigerator and chill thoroughly. Once mixture is chilled, freeze in your ice cream maker according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
