Save Money: Make Your Own Microwave PopcornKelsey Banfield
Popcorn is one of our favorite snacks of all time. It is healthy – when it is not drenched in butter – and easy to make. We used to have an air popper but it broke recently. We were sad, but I decided to just buy some microwave popcorn instead of replacing the popper and I was shocked at how expensive it was. Still, I didn’t want to spring for a new popper just yet so I decided to make my own microwave popcorn in a bag. Once I experimented with it a few times I couldn’t believe how easy it was! Now we make these all the time after school and adore it. It is also SO much less expensive then the store bought stuff. One pack of bags and a jar of kernels has me set for at least a month or more!
Make Your Own Microwave Popcorn
1 brown paper bag
1. Place 2 tablespoons of popcorn kernels in a brown paper bag. Stand the bag upright and push at all the seams so it stands up and looks puffy. Fold down the tops of the paper bag in tight, thin folds at least four times.
2. Place the bag upright in the microwave and cook on high for four minutes, or until you hear less than one pop per second. Remove and allow to cool.
3. Pour the hot popcorn into a bowl and flavor as desired.
