Sour Cherry Ice Cream: A Simple Summer Delight
As a seasonal food buff, this time of year can be a little overwhelming. It seems like almost everything is in season right now, and I want to enjoy all of it. But sometimes, I like to slow things down and pick one special ingredient that really showcases the flavors of the moment. So recently, I made a simple, tart, and creamy sour cherry ice cream. The bright flavor of the sour cherries really stood out in this vivid fuchsia ice cream, and I felt like I had a little bowl of summer.
Sour cherries were made for sweets since they have a deeper flavor that can really stand up to a bit of sugar–look for them at local farm markets or specialty grocery stores. This ice cream has a light texture that showcases the flavor of the cream too, so it’s a good time to grab the good stuff. Fresh cherries, good cream, and a little tang from a lemon add up to a refreshing, creamy summer dessert that everyone will love.
