Festive foods make the holidays fun, but frequently those foods come with a big helping of artificial dyes. And since these dyes have a dubious track record, we’ve chosen to try to steer clear of them in the foods we make at home. But that doesn’t mean we don’t want to have fun St. Patrick’s Day treats, so I came up with this simple approach for all-natural green sugar sprinkles.
Naturally Green Sugar Sprinkles
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 – 2 leaves kale, washed and thoroughly dried
In a medium bowl, rub the sugar with the kale leave. Once the leave begins to shred a bit rub the small pieces of kale into the sugar until it is nice and green. Pick out any tiny shreds of kale, and then spread out the sugar on the bottom of the bowl for it to dry. After 10 minutes, crumble any clumps with your hands, and use.
