I have always loved the classic recipe for Strawberry Country Cake. I mean, what is not to love about yellow cake layered with whipped cream and strawberries? Last week we had an unusual shipment of fresh strawberries from Florida in our grocery store I decided to make a favorite summer dessert early and ramp it up with the addition of nutella. I swiped a nice layer of nutella on the cake before adding the whipped cream and strawberries. Then, I repeated this step with the topping as well. The result was a gorgeous summery cake in springtime with more flavor then we ever thought possible. I know that I’ll definitely be making it again this summer. I may even ask my husband to make this for me for Mother’s Day!
Strawberry Nutella Country Cake
1 box yellow cake mix, or one batch homemade yellow cake
1 pint fresh strawberries, washed, hulled and sliced
3 cups fresh whipped cream
1/2 cup Nutella
1. Bake the cake according to directions and allow both rounds to cool completely.
2. Swipe a thin layer of nutella on top of one of the cake halves, then add 1/2 of the whipped cream. Finally, layer the strawberries around the edge of the circle. Top the berries with the second cake and repeat the layer of nutella, whipped cream and strawberries. Slice and serve!
