Last Christmas, at a party, someone served both a savory cheese ball and a sweet cheese ball. I had never seen a sweet one before, but wondered why on earth I had never thought of making one myself. Of course, nothing could be more wonderful than being allowed to eat what is basically a huge ball of cream cheese frosting.
The one at the party was rolled in mini chocolate chips, and served with chocolate graham crackers. I thought this year I would try out different flavors. Really, anything you might stir into a cookie would work in a sweet cheese ball.
Sweet Cheese Ball Basic Recipe
1 8 ounce package cream cheese
2 cups confectioner’s sugar
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
something to roll the ball in, like slice almonds, mini chocolate chips, or coconut
In an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla. Add in any mix-ins, if using. Roll in the almonds or chocolate chips, wrap in plastic, and chill for 4 hours, or overnight.
Mix in mini marshmallows, and mini chocolate chips, and ribbons of fudge sauce. Roll in chocolate chips and serve with graham crackers.
Fruit Cake Flavor:
Mix in dried fruit, such as dried cherries, raisins, and apricots. Roll in sliced almonds. Serve with shortbread cookies.
Stir in Christmas colored sprinkles and roll in holiday M&M’s.
The possibilities are endless, so have fun and be creative.
