Back when we lived in the Bay Area we frequented a hamburger joint called Jeffrey’s Hamburgers. It was perfect for families so we were there quite a bit. They had a delicious mushroom Swiss burger, smothered in the most wonderful sautéed mushrooms.
Now that we don’t live near Jeffrey’s, I’ve decided I need to make those delicious mushrooms at home for those times when I just need a Jeffrey’s mushroom burger! The mushrooms are actually quite simple to make but really are just so delicious.
These mushrooms are perfect for a good old fashioned mushroom Swiss burger but would also be great smothered over a steak. For that matter, my kids would eat them plain with a fork if I let them!
The Best Sautéed Mushrooms Ever
From Jane Maynard
- 1 8-ounce package white mushrooms or cremini mushrooms, sliced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoons white wine
- 2 cloves fresh garlic, minced or pushed through a garlic press
Heat olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add mushrooms and sauté until mushrooms are starting to get soft. Add garlic, stir around, then add white wine. Sprinkle evenly with salt and pepper, stir. Cook until most of the fluid has cooked off then remove from heat. Taste to make sure there is enough seasoning and add salt and pepper if needed. Serve on a hamburger, a steak or whatever you like!
