The way I see it, you can justify almost anything for lunch so long as it’s next to a big pile of beautiful broccoli. Well, that was the logic I was following when I put together some fried hot dog sandwiches for my daughters at the beach over the weekend. I went to high school right across from Walter’s Hot Dog Stand, once honored for serving the best dogs in the country by Gourmet Magazine. What made them so special? They were split and fried in butter. We served them open-face on a toasted…buttered roll. (Keep repeating: Broccoli, broccoli, broccoli.) They could not have disappeared faster.
