The Grapefruit Fizz: Mom's Favorite Mocktail

The Grapefruit Fizz

You can’t blame me for being a little bitter about missing cocktail season this year. I don’t mind giving up a sip of alcohol for the health of my baby but as I near the 9-month mark I am tired of sparkling water. This Christmas my kind husband too pity on me and decided to make me a light mocktail that reflect my current last minute cravings for citrus. A little grapefruit juice with a pinch of fresh ginger is all it takes and it is really delicious. I also like the fact that it brightens my mood with the slightly tropical flavor.

The Grapefruit Fizz

makes one

Plain sparkling water

Freshly squeezed grapefruit juice

1/2 teaspoon freshly grated peeled ginger root

To make the mocktail: Drop the grated ginger root into the bottom of an 8 ounce drinking glass. Fill the glass 3/4 full of the sparkling water, then top it off with the grapefuit juice. Drop in one or two ice cubes if desired. Stir the drink with a spoon or swizzle stick and enjoy!
