I was involved in the production of a cookbook last year that was created to raise funds for an amazing cause. The Soup Sisters Cookbook showcases 100 comforting recipes from Soup Sisters volunteers and some of Canada’s top celebrity chefs and volunteer instructors, including Michael Stadtlander, Bonnie Stern, Lucy Waverman, Massimo Capra, Anna Olson, Michael Bonacini and Elizabeth Baird.
The Soup Sisters organization is a Calgary-based non-profit enterprise founded in 2009, dedicated to making a difference in the lives of women and children in need. It reflects founder Sharon Hapton’s belief in the power of soup and the comfort, warmth and nourishment that soup can provide. Groups of friends, family and colleagues come together through their local Soup Sisters events to cook, share and donate made-from-scratch soup to women’s shelters in their communities. Now across Canada and with Broth Brothers groups established as well, there is growing network has over 4,500 supporters who collectively donate over 8,000 bowls of soup every month – well over 75,000 bowls of soup have been donated to date. Proceeds of the book go to support this amazing cause – and will provide your family with the nourishment of homemade soup as well!
