Congratulations to Brenda Austin, whose Garlic Lemon Green Beans dish won November’s “My Family’s Favorite Food” Thanksgiving side dish contest! We hope you enjoy your delicious prizes from Hickory Farms! (If you missed the Thanksgiving face-off, you can check out the competition here!)

With Thanksgiving behind you, it’s time to start planning your holiday dinner menu. Lucky for you, Brenda shared her Garlic Lemon Green Beans recipe so you, too, can make her tasty veggie side dish! Check out the recipe after the jump!

Garlic Lemon Green Beans

Ingredients: (serves 4)

  • 1/2 pound thin French green beans — washed, stemmed, and dried
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 lemon (freshly squeezed juice and zest)
  • 12-15 cloves of garlic, finely minced
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • lemon slices for garnish (optional)

Directions:

Heat the olive oil in a large pan or skillet on medium high heat until very hot.

Place the green beans into the pan and stir fry in the hot oil for about 2-3 minutes.

Add the butter and garlic and stir fry for approximately one more minute, or until the garlic becomes translucent but not brown (be careful not to burn the garlic).

Add the lemon juice and zest, season generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper, and remove from heat. The beans should still feel very firm.

Plate and serve immediately, garnishing with lemon slices if desired.
