The author of the number 9 pick on my list of cookbooks I can’t live without probably has the coolest job E-V-E-R. And this job is besides being a fabulous cook and writing beautiful cookbooks…because she is also the person hired to create all of the cinematic food creations for movies like It’s Complicated, Julie & Julia, and most recently (and I haven’t seen it yet but I’m sure the pasta scenes are as gorgeous as Javier Bardem) Eat Pray Love. You can read this piece about her movie work HERE; but before she was known as a film food stylist, she was a cookbook author and magazine editor for Martha Stewart Living, and this truly modern cookbook is one of my faves:
Open the cover of Lady Spungen peeling perfect apple skin strings and you find a beautifully orgazanized collection of everyday recipes. Unlike other books organized by food type or season, RECIPES is organized by technique: roast, grill, bake, etc.
I spent this summer relying a lot upon her Grill section, preparing her salmon on planks with a citrus salsa, her perfectly done scallops, and her calzones. Everything always comes out fresh, unmuddled, classy.
Now I just have to figure out how to steal her job.
