Umami Burger is poised to open two more Los Angeles outposts this year. This popular burger chain is known for it’s Japanese-Flavored burgers that cost between $10 and $11. One of the newest outposts is also said to feature the new concept Umamicatessen, several mini-restaurants in one location serving food cafeteria style. So, what makes Umami Burger so special? Unlike most popular burger restaurants where burgers are topped with cheese, bacon, ketchup and pickles, these burgers are infused with an umami sauce. Umami is the name for the savory taste that combines all four basic tastes – sweet, sour, bitter, salty, savory – to form a fifth taste. Umami is borrowed from the Japanese word that means “savoriness.” How exactly Umami Burger achieve it’s popular umami taste remains a secret. As it reads on their website, Umami Burger founder Adam Fleischman uses a secret sauce that outdoes all out other secret sauces. He also adds a variety of toppings to further enhance the burger flavor and highlight the sauce infusion in the high quality organic ground beef.
With new outposts slated to open soon Umami Burger is bound to see success far and wide over the next few years. In fact, I expect even New York City will see it’s own Umami Burger location at some point! In the mean time, here are the current and upcoming locations for Umami Burger in California:
