My kids would live on candy if I let them. As much as I’d like to be the mom who by golly makes her kids eat what she serves, I am not. Too much stress is going on in our family’s life right now, and I know enough to choose my battles. My daughter, who is about as picky as they get, somehow manages to survive as a healthy, olive-skinned beauty on an average of 500 calories a day. I try to push as much healthy food as possible, but sometimes, when I’m tired, and she gets me at a weak moment, I do let her have candy, even when I know she never touched her sandwich at lunch.
That’s why I’m a huge fan of health food store snacks. No, they’re not always as healthy as a bowl of brown rice and beans, but they do keep my kids away from Twinkies and Jell-o, and let them eat something fun without all the artificial ingredients.
I recently received some snack bars in the mail from the people that make Pure bars. Though I had seen them at health food stores before, I had never tried them. They are quite a bit like Larabars, in that they are vegan and raw. They’re loaded with nuts and dried fruits and lots of goodness, including protein, potassium, and Omega-3s. My kids and my favorite flavors were the cranberry orange, apple cinnamon, and cherry cashew (pictured above)
