The unexpected Summer Food Trend for 2013 is The Croger. One part Croissant and one part Cheeseburger, the Croger highlights the foodie accessory of the season, the grill.

With the introduction of the Cronut in Spring 2013, food trends were set ablaze. Personal assistants for anyone who is anyone lined the streets of New York for this pastry hybrid by Chef Dominique Ansel.

A seemingly simple confection that combines the airy layers of the Croissant with the unbridled sweetness of the Doughnut, the Cronut brought the deep-fryer back into fashion again.

In reaction to the Cronut’s popularity, black-market knock-offs were to be expected. And of course, this kind of trendy mayhem elicits response. The so-called Post-Cronut era has emerged, reclaiming the buttery Croissant and not only restoring its original glory, but transforming the once humble breakfast bread into a vehicle for Americana.
