Health and Fitness in 2013: The Top News, Trends, and More!

By Lizzie Heiselt |

I can hardly believe 2013 is winding down and it’s time to start dissecting it. What happened here? What did we learn? Who were we inspired by? Which bandwagons did we all jump on? (And will we stay on them in the future?)

There have been some really great moments – like watching 64-year-old Diana Nyad emerge from the ocean after her 53-hour swim between Cuba and Florida – and some not so great moments – like when we found out our favorite Lululemon pants were actually see-through. Yikes! Bet our yoga buddies weren’t expecting that! But more that anything this year seems to have been the year of being confident: in our bodies, in our kitchens, in our support for people doing hard things (like getting a double mastectomy and writing about it for the New York Times – not that Angelina Jolie needs our support).

Among the best moments and trends of 2013 are people (and organizations!) standing up for something – whether it be better quality food for all or for health over thinness – but let’s not stop there! Click through below to find our top picks for some of this year’s best people, moments, and trends that are likely to have an impact on us for years to come.
