10 Most Shocking, Ridiculous and Embarrassing Oscar Moments Involving Celeb Moms and Dads

I’m hoping for this moment at the 2012 Oscars, but with Brad Pitt as the streaker.

In 2002 Will Smith was nominated for a best leading actor Oscar for his work in the movie Ali, based on the life of Mohammed Ali.

However, halfway through the Academy Awards ceremony, Will and his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, left the show.

What? Who would leave the Oscars when their category has yet to be announced?

Later it was revealed that their daughter Willow, who was a toddler at the time, had a really high fever so the couple decided to call it a night and head home.

What exemplary parents! The Smith family displayed a prime example of behavior to be admired at the Oscars. But then there’s the flip side, which, unfortunately, is a lot more common. The weird, the wild, the wacky — when Hollywood is involved, you just never can tell what’s going to go down.

With the 2012 Academy Awards coming up this Sunday, we decided to compile a list of the 10 most shocking, ridiculous and just plain embarrassing moments involving celeb moms and dads at the Oscars, from shocking ensembles to crazy red carpet antics and embarrassing acceptance speeches:

  • Mommy, What’s THAT? 1 of 10
    Mommy, What's THAT?
Um, Ms. Cher? There is something sitting on your head. It might be a porcupine. Could be a baby bear. Are you in any pain? Cher apparently wore the infamous Bob Mackie dress to spite the Academy after they snubbed her for her role in The Mask by saying they didn't believe she was serious because she didn't dress seriously. Take that, Academy. Chasity (now Chaz) was 16 at the time. Can you imagine sitting with your friends to watch the Oscars and saying, "Yep — there's my mom"?!

  • Mommy, What Does F#@k Mean? 2 of 10
    Mommy, What Does F#@k Mean?
Mom of two Melissa Leo said she was speechless when she won Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Fighter in 2011. But seconds later she dropped the F-bomb. (Got to love live broadcasts!) Not so speechless, eh?

  • Dad, Why Does the Academy Hate Mom? 3 of 10
Dad, Why Does the Academy Hate Mom?
Apparently, appearing in 14 feature films, winning several Emmy awards, being nominated for a number of Golden Globes, and being a worldwide icon doesn't qualify you for a mention at the Academy Awards after you die from cancer. It's interesting to note Michael Jackson, who only starred in one movie in his lifetime (The Wiz), was included.

  • Mommy, Why Did Daddy Forget Your Name? 4 of 10
Mommy, Why Did Daddy Forget Your Name?
Did he or didn't he? Only Christian Bale knows the answer to that question. I tend to think his mind went blank and he tried to cover it up by acting verklempt. The man was, after all, winning an award for acting. But does it really matter? Nobody will remember that video clip, as this clip of Mr. Bale is the one that will go down in infamy.

  • Mommy, That Man Is Hurting My Ears 5 of 10
Mommy, That Man Is Hurting My Ears
As with almost every time Michael Moore is in front of the camera, this clip of him accepting an Oscar for his documentary Bowling for Columbine is supremely uncomfortable. I'm no Bush fan, but when the stepfather of one started in on President Bush I just wanted it all to end.
You can watch the clip here — prepare to squirm!
  • Drop and Give Us Twenty! 6 of 10
    Drop and Give Us Twenty!
After winning a best supporting actor Oscar in 1992 for his role as Curly in City Slickers, father and grandfather Jack Palance demonstrated his ability, at age 73, to perform one-handed push-ups. Take that, you whippersnappers! Fun fact: his daughter is married to Elizabeth Taylor's son.

  • Mom, What’s That Thing on That Naked Man? 7 of 10
Mom, What's That Thing on That Naked Man?
Robert Opel, 34, is maybe the most widely seen streaker in history. He streaked across the stage flashing the peace sign just as host David Niven was introducing Elizabeth Taylor at the 1974 awards. Niven was mostly between the streaker and the camera. Host David Niven joked, "Isn't it fascinating to think that probably the only laugh that man will ever get in his life is by stripping off and showing his shortcomings?"
  • Mom, Is That Man an Actor? 8 of 10
Mom, Is That Man an Actor?
Father of five children at the time, Marlon Brando won an Oscar in 1973 for his role in The Godfather. Brando turned down the honor based on his disapproval of the treatment of Native American Indians in movies. He sent American Indian rights activist Sacheen Littlefeather in his stead. The incident prompted the Academy to disallow acceptance (or refusal) of Oscars by proxy.
  • Mommy, Why Are You Wearing a Dead Swan? 9 of 10
Mommy, Why Are You Wearing a Dead Swan?
She was Lady Gaga before there was Lady Gaga. Singing sensation Bjork, who was mom to one son at the time, rolled up at the 2001 Oscars wearing this bizarre swan dress designed by Marjan Pejorski. As you can imagine, Joan Rivers didn't give it two thumbs up, but I dig it. I dig anyone doing anything different. Go on with your bad self, mama! Bjork had a baby girl a year after this photo was taken.

  • Daddy, Why Is That Vampire Biting Mommy? 10 of 10
Daddy, Why Is That Vampire Biting Mommy?
This should come as no surprise, as this is the man who infamously told a reporter he was "going to pull your endocrine system out of your body," and yet I was still surprised to see Gary Busey maul Jennifer Garner while she was being interviewed by Ryan Seacrest at the 2008 Academy Awards. Why Gary, what big teeth you have! Alas, all videos of the infamous incident seem to have been removed, and we are left with still shots from the clip that appear as if Busey has pulled an Edward Cullen on Garner. Ah, well. It's for the best; the video makes you squirm over the awkwardness of it all.
