10 Reasons Why We Love Idris ElbaJoanna Mazewski
Idris Elba is fast becoming a Hollywood heavyweight in the entertainment world. And if you don’t know his name (or that smile and swoon-worthy accent of his), you soon will as he’ll be making big waves on the big screen this year.
While American audiences might recognize him as Michael Scott’s rival Charles Miner on The Office, British audiences have been swooning over him for years now. The London-born actor landed his first role on a series called Bramwell and also had a supporting role in Absolutely Fabulous before becoming DCI Luther in the BBC crime-thriller series, Luther.
And if that weren’t enough, this year we’ll be seeing a lot of Idris on the big screen as he’s set to star in a number of films including No Good Deed, The Gunman, Second Coming and Beasts of No Nation. As far as his private life is concerned, Idris has a lot to look forward to as he and his girlfriend Naiyana Garth (lucky lady) are expecting a child together — Idris’ second (he’s also a father to his first daughter, Isan Elba, who lives in Atlanta with her mother).
Check out our 10 reasons why we love Idris Elba (and why you soon will, too) and let us know what you think. Or if you just want to flip through our slideshow for some very irresistible pics of Mr. Elba, that is totally acceptable, too. And of course, you’re welcome.

He tells it like it is… 2 of 9
I love it when Idris tells it like it is. He's not interested in playing a "Black James Bond" or a "White James Bond," but simply "James Bond. Whatever the Bond, I wouldn't mind seeing him as the next James Bond. Can we start an online petition to get the ball rolling?
He was a pizza delivery man… 3 of 9
He's very sexy and charming ... and he once delivered a pizza in space. For real.
He’s into music… 4 of 9
Not only is he a handsome, talented actor, but he's also got mad skills behind the camera, too. He once directed and performed in Mumford & Sons' music video, "Lover of the Light." You can check out the music video here.
He’s modest… 5 of 9
Ok, I think Idris is being a little modest here when he says that he doesn't get hit on very often. I for one, don't believe it. Along with Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hiddleton, and Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba can quickly become Tumblr's next sweetheart for 2014, although he might not believe it himself. He is quoted as saying: "I don't get hit on. I get a lot of female fans coming up and wanting to take pictures. But the actual 'Let me take you for a drink,' I don't get that," he says.
Dreaming of the London Musical Stage! 6 of 9
Not only can this man act and direct, but it looks like he's got mad skills on the dance floor, too. He's revealed that he's a skilled tap dancer and that while he enjoys watching Dancing With The Stars, he has no interest in being on the show. Now that's just a shame because man there is nothing sexier than a man who knows how to dance... while on TV. In addition, he also dreams of landing a role in a London musical happen. Let's hope his publicist makes it happen!
He sticks up for himself… 7 of 9
Idrissa or Idris? The British actor has said that he was once bullied during his school years for his name and that's why he shortened his birth name of Idrissa to Idris. But that doesn't mean he allowed his bullies to get away with their attacks on him. He once told Vulture: "I quickly got well-known because I was tall and wasn't taking any sh--," he explained. I don't know about you, but Idris sounds like the sexiest name of 2014 to me so far!
He’s also a DJ… 8 of 9
So, let's get this straight here: Idris is an actor, a director, a dancer AND a DJ? That's right folks, he started his DJing career back in 1986, when he helped his uncle launch a wedding DJ business. And if that weren't enough, he also co-produced one of Jay-Z's tracks on his album, American Gangster. Who would have guessed? You can check out his work on his official DJ website here.
And then there’s this… 9 of 9
Enough said. The end. Good night.
