Let’s face it — Benedict Cumberbatch has one of the strongest cult-like followings when it comes to his fans on the internet, and his “Cumberpeople” are growing stronger by the numbers each day. The man has become a phenomenon, and while it’s taken me some time to figure out why, I’m slowing becoming convinced that he is the best thing to happen to Hollywood since, well, ever. There’s just no comparison!
Check out our photo gallery of the top ten reasons why we should start paying attention to this grammar-loving, dapper, quintessential British gentleman and let us know what you think. If you’re not already a Cumby fan, well, all you need to watch is one episode of Sherlock and you will be soon. Trust me!
Benedict Cumberbatch 1 of 10
He might not be very well known in the United States (yet), but his popularity is growing fast. Benedict not only stars in the immensely popular BBC television show Sherlock, but he's also starred in a string of big screen hits, which include Star Trek: Into Darkness and War Horse. He's also wrapping up work on the next The Hobbit trilogy films and the much anticipated The Fifth Estate. Plus, I cannot wait to see the next season of Sherlock. How did he survive that fall?
Sherlock 2 of 10
If you haven't seen Sherlock yet, I promise you that you'll fall in love with Benedict the moment you watch the first episode of the show. But I'm not just talking about having a physical attraction to the man here. He plays Sherlock with such intelligence and grandeur that he'll leave you wanting more, and that's probably why I watched the entire first season in just one sitting!
Hot 3 of 10
He's hot, but not in a traditional way. It's hard to explain, but no one wants a man who looks like a runway model, right? We want a man who can not only charm us, but inspire us and totally keep us smitten with his good sense of humor, too. What can I say? Benedict is the full package, and that's probably why the ladies can't help but go wild over him!
Charity 4 of 10
He does loads for charity, including The Prince's Trust, which helps disadvantaged young people. Gotta love and respect a man with a big heart.
Family 5 of 10
He might have not met "The One" yet, but Benedict definitely has babies on the mind! Unlike Leonardo DiCaprio and George Clooney, Cumby here wants a family! He says: ‘‘I would love to have children. Everyone wants to know when I'm going to settle down and who is going to be Mrs. Cumberbatch. I can't wait to do an interview like this and just talk about my child."
Any takers for the role, ladies? I'm sure there are a LOT out there!
Dapper 6 of 10
He carries a hankerchief in his suit pocket. How very dapper. I'm sure he uses it in case there's an emergency with a poor lady in distress.
Baywatch 7 of 10
He secretly loves David Hasselhoff! He says his favorite shows as a child were Knight Rider and Baywatch. Hey, we all have our guilty pleasures, right? * Wink *
Respects His Fans 8 of 10
Benedict has recently revealed he's not too happy that his fans have chosen to christen themselves "Cumberb*tches."
He said: "I won't allow you to be my b*tches, I think it sets feminism back so many notches. You are Cumberpeople."
I don't know about you ladies, but I'm swooning!
Good Looks 9 of 10
A little bit of color and damn, the man is a fox. Need I say more?
Just Because… 10 of 10
And while "Benedict Cumberbatch" could be the name of a talking animal from a British children's book, it's actually the name of our favorite British actor, LOL. It's so much fun to say, right? Plus, he's a bit of a grammar nerd: "A split infinitive occurs in the opening sequence of the Star Trek television series: To boldly go where no man has gone before."
