Marriages are becoming far more colorful. And this is a fact. According to the new U.S. census data released on Wednesday – as CNN is reporting – “one in every 10 American opposite-sex married couples (is) saying they’re of mixed races.” Back in 2000, the figure was closer to 7%.
Decades ago, it was less common to see a couple from different racial backgrounds not just getting together but marrying and having kids. But now, it is becoming far more acceptable. CNN notes that, “analysts suggest the new figures could reflect U.S. population shifts, broader social acceptance of such unions.” And one factor? Seeing celebrity couple of from different ethnicities marrying and starting families, making these unions more public. Plus the most famous man in the land – our own president – is the result of a mixed-race marriage.
