Funny Dads We Love: O’Brien, Stewart, Colbert
They make us laugh. Until we cry. And we’re betting they make pretty terrifically fun dads, too. Take a look at our rundown of the 5 funny guy dads we love. And that’s no joke.
Steve Carell – Carell noted at a recent premiere that “Kids are funny in general because they’re unfiltered and they’re wise, but they’re not jaded by anything.” He’s witty and a comedic genius, Carell has given us everything from The Office’s Michael Scott to roles in Anchorman and The 40-Year-Old Virgin, plus a variety of hilarious characters in between. No doubt he’s got his kids giggling on a daily basis.
Stephen Colbert – Why do we love him so? Colbert’s brand of humor is like no other – he’s at his best on The Colbert Report when he gets laughs for how seriously he, as his smug Colbert character, takes himself. His Colbert Nation is strong and we’re among his biggest supporters, as his three kids likely are too.
Jon Stewart – Or J-Stew, as we like to call him, has risen to the heights of fake news hosts as one of its brightest stars (or maybe the only star?). Jon Stewart has the goods: he’s a solid funnyman who also knows his stuff, so he’s no slouch when he has to go head-to-head against some of his toughest opponents… and comes out smelling like a rose when the dust settles. That can only serve him well as father to his two children.
Conan O’Brien – We stood by Conan in the late night drama because, pure and simple, he’s funny. He didn’t let his failed Tonight Show gig get the best of him, instead taking his show on the road and securing a new deal on TBS. O’Brien never fails to take risks when going for the laugh, and we’re sure his kids appreciate him for it.
Will Ferrell – One of the funniest guys ever, Will Ferrell showed us all he had with a variety of characters on Saturday Night Live, before moving into film roles that really brought the funny (Talladega Nights, Anchorman, Blades of Glory and Step Brothers). We can’t help but think that Will tries out new characters on his kids, which has to be one of the perks of being in the Ferrell household.
Honorable mentions: Jim Carrey for his many impersonations and seemingly rubber face, Adam Sandler for being among the silliest of all celeb dads, Will Arnett for completing the power parent combo of Arnett and Poehler (Amy, that is), and Jack Black for having that fabulous blend of comedic and musical talent.
