With two small children at home, my husband and I really don’t get many opportunities to go to the movies. But when we do, we definitely do our research on the film to make sure it’s worth the night out and babysitting fees. Fortunately, this year we saw a lot of films worth their weight in gold. Hollywood has had one of its best years yet when it comes to the quality and acting of this year’s Best Picture nominees for the Academy Awards®.
Whenever I watch a really good movie, I always fantasize about going on a nice little getaway to the city I see on the big screen. Movie locations sometimes are the best supporting actors in a film, right? Some of the most iconic movie locations of all time include the Trevi Fountain in La Dolce Vita (oh, how I wouldn’t mind taking a trip to Italy right now), and the Philadelphia Museum of Art in Rocky. (True story: My husband actually made a point of climbing the stairs Rocky-style during our last trip to Philadelphia, which I’m sure thousands of Philly tourists have done in the past, too!)
Check out our photo gallery below of some incredible (and affordable) getaways inspired by the Best Picture nominees for this year’s Oscars®, along with CheapOAir for their discounted vacation packages. In the meantime, I’ll be dreaming of London, L.A., Boston, and so much more…

Boston | American Hustle 2 of 6
I read a meme one time that explicitly described Boston as a city you definitely don't mess with, as the people are full of great pride for their hometown. If you decide to visit Boston this year, begin your vacation by purchasing tickets to a live dance or music performance at Boston's Wang Theatre, which is home to several of American Hustle's casino scenes. The theater is also where Rosalyn Rosenfeld (Jennifer Lawrence) and Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) fought over Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale) after discovering the love triangle he had gotten himself into with his wife and mistress.

Los Angeles | Her 3 of 6
Quite honestly, I have a love/hate relationship with Los Angeles. It's a city that makes dreams come true, but at the same time it's a city that breaks many hearts, too. But I'm sure the good weather, incredible beaches, and palm trees make up for all of that! When in Los Angeles, head to Dockweiler State Beach, which is the location where Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix) and Samantha (Scarlett Johansson) shared a romantic date in Her. Afterwards, go to San Pedro Harbor, where Theodore sails to Catalina Island in the movie.

New York City | The Wolf of Wall Street 4 of 6
Ahhh ... the Big Apple. The city that never takes an Ambien, right? When vacationing, make sure to pay a visit to 666 Fifth Avenue, the actual building where the LF Rothschild firm was housed in The Wolf of Wall Street. Although the Top of the Sixes sky-top restaurant — the setting of the famous scene in which Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) gets taken out to lunch by his boss, Mark Hanna (Matthew McConaughey) and is taught the "key" to being a successful and powerful investment banker — was closed back in 1996, you can try getting a membership at The Grand Havana Room, an exclusive cigar club, that's taken up house in its place. Looking for a cheaper option? You can always venture to Queens to chow down at Shalimar Diner, which was the setting of Kacandes Diner in the film.

New Orleans | Dallas Buyers Club 5 of 6
New Orleans is the South's heart when it comes to culture, great architecture, and good food. The best time to go is of course during Mardi Gras, but any other time of the year you might get lucky and bump into stars who also love to call New Orleans home, including Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Ellen DeGeneres, and Sandra Bullock. New Orleans has long been used to film scenes of movies that are supposed to be based in Texas, and Dallas Buyers Club is no different. Producers made the "Big Easy" look like the "Big D" in many scenes.

London | Philomena 6 of 6
London is by far one of my favorite cities in the world. I just love how the city is a mix of old and new, with modern ideas mixing with old traditions. The nightlife is amazing compared to other European capitals and plus, it's the home of stylish celebrities such as Victoria Beckham, Kate Middleton, and my personal hero, Jennifer Saunders. If you plan on going to London, be sure to fly into Stansted Airport where they filmed several emotional scenes between Philomena (Judi Dench) and Martin Sixsmith (Steve Coogan) around the terminal.
