5 Reasons To Be Excited About The New Pee-wee Herman MovieSunny Chanel
It looks like Paul Reuben‘s alter-ego Pee-Wee Hermann will be making a triumphant return to the big screen. Earlier this year, Reubens brought Pee-Wee back in the Pee-wee-Herman Stage Show: The Return which was extremely well received and led to this new film project. Here are five reasons to be excited about the return of Pee-wee!
If you ever watched Pee-wee’s playhouse, you probably thoroughly enjoyed it. What not to love? And Hollywood loves a remake and has really embracing nostalgia lately. One of the main reasons why Pee-wee did the new stage show was actually to try to get a new film deal and to, “introduce Pee-wee to the new generation that didn’t know about it.”
Fun for parents and kids
Originally Pee-wee’s HBO program and original stage show had oodles of adult innuendo. But that was totally toned down to be more kid friendly for the film Pee-wee’s Big Adventure and his Emmy Award winning children’s show Pee-wee’s Playhouse. A show that was just as popular with adults as kids. Hopefully they’ll stick with it being palatable to both young and old.
Great redemption tale
Paul Reuben’s career was halted by his arrest in July of 1991 when he was caught- exposed -at an adult movie theater. CBS stopped airing his shows and Toys-R-Us took all the Pee-wee toys off the shelves. During this time he took very un-Pee-wee bit parts but resurrected Pee-wee in 2007 for the Spike TV’s Guys’ Choice Awards. After his arrest, it looked like he could never be embraced as the wide-eyed innocent Pee-wee again but it time seems to heal all wounds…and scandals.
Judd Apatow, the producer/creator of Knocked Up, Superbad, and Get Him To the Greek, has the Midas touch. Apatow will be producing the upcoming film. “Let’s face it, the world needs more Pee-wee Herman,” Judd told Variety. “I am so excited to be working with Paul Reubens who is an extraordinary and ground-breaking actor and writer. It’s so great to watch him return with such relevance.”
“There is no one like Judd in our business — he loves comedy with emotion and heart, and he sees what we do as art,” Paul told the mag. “I can’t believe I’m getting this opportunity to be working with him.”
All the characters
Besides Pee-wee it’ll be great to welcome back Miss Yvonne, Mailman Mike, Jambi the Genie and of course Chairry.
But who knows how kid friendly the movie actually will be. Reubens will work with the screenwriter Paul Rust, whose credits include “Inglourious Basterds” and “I Love You, Beth Cooper.”
