I think I was about eleven or twelve when my Oscars® obsession began. I had not yet begun to go see all the films nominated (I was far too young for most of them) but there was something about the Academy Awards that I was really drawn to. I’m not sure what exactly it was; the actresses in their beautiful gowns, the suspense of who would be announced the winner or seeing the unbridled glee and happiness of the recipients when they won the most coveted award in the entertainment industry. I would even act out my own acceptance speeches, playing them out in front of a mirror while holding a hairbrush as a mic. Although the dream of winning my own award one day has been shelved, my Oscar obsession is one I never outgrew.
I have watched the Academy Awards every single year since. I have been to Oscar parties, thrown Oscar parties, watched it with friends, watched it with boyfriends past and roommates from years ago. And now my Oscar watching is very different. I watch it with my husband and little girl. It is now a family event, one I continue to love. But one thing is, in past years I felt like I did’t get enough Oscar action. I watch the red carpet for the gowns, watch the Award ceremony itself but I often felt that I wanted, nay needed, more. And this year, I’m getting it.
The Oscar App brings so much more added awesomeness to the Academy Awards watching and celebrating experience and since it is totally free, it’s pretty much a no-brainer to download.
Here are 5 ways it brings the fun:
It’s not just about watching the stage anymore. It’s about the whole experience. With the Backstage Pass part of the app, you can watch all the celebrities walk (and work) the red carpet, see them in the wings after they’ve grabbed their statue and see the stars mingle and hobnob. One of the coolest things is the ability to see the stars backstage after they’ve won. They’re limited in their time on stage, and that often leaves us Oscar fans wanting to share more in their excitement. Plus there you can see their press room interviews where the stars and filmmakers really get to talk about their wins.
Forgot who is being nominated in categories from Best Supporting Actor to Sound Mixing? The app gives instant access to not just who made the cut but also a synopsis of the film and the honoree’s other Oscar nominations and wins. A great way to reference the awards while you watch.
My friends and I always compete to see who has more correct guesses sometimes with monetary rewards (yes, we do some betting). The Oscar app ups the ante. It connects to you Facebook account so you can share your picks with your friends, a great way to see how you, and everyone else, fared with their predictions.
Photos and Video:
This will be updated like crazy on Oscar night, but there is so, so, so much to explore before the big night from highlights from previous years, trailers and clips from all the nominated films and the best dressed from Academy Awards in years past, it really is a great archive.
Oscar Party Time:
They also provide tips on how to make the most of your Oscar experience at home. On the app are tips for creating special Oscar inspired snacks for your own party. The Oscar team partnered with The Chew on not just recipes and drinks for the big night but with party tips.
