7 Things You Didnt Know About Charlie Hunnam

Ladies and gentlemen, we have our Christian Grey. After months of speculation, it was finally announced on Monday that our chiseled, 20-something domineering boyfriend Hausfraus — who we have been fantasizing about throughout all of 2012 — will be played by Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam. (Okay, SOME, but not all of you, have been fantasizing about him all throughout 2012!)

I’m sure many of you probably said, “Huh?” when you heard Charlie’s name. Well, you’re not alone.

It seems as though Charlie was picked out of nowhere as there were plenty of other names being thrown around for the role, including Ian Somerhalder, Henry Cavill, Ryan Gosling, and Michael Fassbender — all popular choices to play the leading gent for the screen adaption of Fifty Shades of Grey.

Well, whether you are incredibly stoked about the choice or weeping from disappointment, one thing’s for sure: we’re going to be seeing a lot of Charlie Hunnam in the coming months (and even more of him on the big screen!).

Check out our gallery of the seven things you probably didn’t know about him, and let us know your thoughts!

  • Charlie Hunnam 1 of 7
"Sons of Anarchy" Season 4 Los Angeles Premiere - Arrivals

He's British and has somewhat of a tough guy persona. I guess that means he's part of the Tom Hardy club now, huh ladies? The actor is originally from Newcastle, England, a working-class town. As a kid, he moved to the Lake District, where apparently he got into a lot of fights as a kid.

He has a chiseled physique that he maintains by boxing, swimming, and weightlifting among other things, according to Australian Men's Fitness. That's PERFECT for our Christian Grey, right?

  • Bartendaz 3 of 7

While you're busy sweating it out in a Cross Fit box, Charlie is too busy doing Bartendaz! He caught the Bartendaz bug, adopting a program created by a group of guys in Harlem and Brooklyn who work out rigorously at playgrounds and in parks. After one of his training friends started using Bartendaz workouts to get ultra-jacked, Hunnam YouTubed the group and witnessed for himself their dynamic acrobatic moves.

Sorry ladies, but Charlie's not single. For the past six years, he has been dating jewelry designer Morgana McNelis. In an interview with Britain's 7 Nights magazine in July, he said about his life with Morgana: "We've got 30 chickens and a couple of donkeys, a couple of ducks and we've got a big, organic garden. We are going to try to live a bit more sustainably."

  • Screenwriter 5 of 7

Charlie's also a screenwriter, which of course means he's not all about the muscles, ladies. Charlie wrote a screenplay, Dracula-based Vlad, which Brad Pitt's production company Plan B and Summit Entertainment are slated to produce. Interesting...

According to sources, he's very good friends with Jamie Bell, Anne Hathaway, and Romola Garai. All formed a strong bond while filming Nicholas Nickleby.

Charlie said not too long ago:

"Well, I have a great deal of pride, and I care infinitely about what my peers think [about me]. It could be my downfall, but I don't think it is — Hollywood is run on perception, and if you stray off the path of what you want to do with your career, it's suicide. I have 60 years to make the money, but the choices I make in the next five years are really going to define my career."

I can only wonder what his peers are going to think of him as the next Christian Grey!
