This Friday Diane Lane‘s newest film opens, the Disney horse racing tale Secretariat. She is playing Penny Chenery, the owner of the Triple Crown winning racehorse. You may remember Diane Lane from such hits as The Outsiders, Rumble Fish, The Cotton Club, My Dog Skip and of course Unfaithful. But who is Diane Lane? Diane Lane started young, she began acting professional at the age of six in the theater.

Diane Lane had her screen debut when she was just 13. It was in the film A Little Romance that was released in 1979. And for a first job, she lucked out, she was cast opposite Sir Laurence Olivier.

At the young age of 13, Diane Lane was featured on the cover of Time magazine.

Diane Lane’s mother Colleen Farrington was a Playboy centerfold, she was Miss October 1957. Her mom was also a nightclub singer.

Diane Lane’s dad Burton Eugene Lane was a drama coach in New York and he ran a acting workshop with John Cassavetes. He also worked as a cabbie and taught Humanities at City College.

Her parents divorced when she was a about one. Her mom has custody of Diane until she was six. Then her dad got custody of Diane when her mom moved to Georgia.

At the age of 15, she ran away to Los Angeles with friend (actor Christopher Atkins), she declared independence from her father.

When she returned to New York, she moved in with a friend of the family and paid them rent, she lived there until her mom kidnapped her and took her to Georgia. Diane and her dad took her mother to court and Diane was then returned back to New York.

Lane has dated lots of actors including Timothy Hutton, Christopher Atkins, Matt Dillon and Jon Bon Jovi.  Her first husband was actor Christopher Lambert, they had a daughter together Eleanor Jasmine Lambert (born 1993). In 2003 she became engaged and later married Josh Brolin.
