Summer and that all too dreaded bikini season is right around the corner and like most moms around America, I’m sure you’re tired of hearing the Frozen soundtrack play nonstop in your car, at home, at numerous birthday parties, and so forth. If you’re like me, you probably can’t sleep at night because your brain is too busy reciting words from “Love Is An Open Door” at two o’clock in the morning. Yes, it’s happened more times than I’d like to admit.
Regardless, it’s time for us to take back our Bluetooth playlists in our cars, our iPods, and our iTunes accounts or anything else our children have basically robbed during their Frozen fervor. Gold’s Gym recently interviewed celebrities about their favorite picks for their ultimate summer workout playlists, and it looks like a list I would definitely download for my workouts and those moments I really don’t feel like building a snowman. (Actually, who am I kidding? I love that song!).
Here are some of my favorites:
1. Will Ferrell: “Happy” by Pharrell Williams
Even though I first heard Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” last year while listening to the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack in our car (yes, we are huge movie soundtrack people!), it’s still a song that I love to sing and dance along to no matter how many times I hear it. And yes, it always makes me happy each time I sing along to the lyrics, too! In fact, I think it would be a great idea to see Will Ferrell sing and dance along to “Happy” in a YouTube video that I’m sure would go viral.
2. Brooke Shields: “Wake Me Up” by Avicii
Avicii’s “Wake Me Up” is the ultimate dance song of 2014. It’s got a great beat and it gets me going in the mornings when I’m barely making it out the door in my pajamas during my kids’ school run.
3. JWoww: “Drunk in Love” by Beyonce
I don’t think there’s a mom out there who doesn’t love singing along to Beyonce’s sultry “Drunk in Love.” With her highly-anticipated tour coming up with her husband Jay-Z this summer, I’m sure everyone is going to be singing this song the same way they were memorizing the lyrics to “Single Ladies” a few years ago.
4. Robert Irvine: “Just Give Me A Reason” by Pink
Pink has gone a long way since first debuting on the charts back in 1999, and I’ll admit that I don’t think there’s a Pink song that I haven’t loved. Pink is a very passionate performer and singer and it definitely shows in her work, as “Just Give Me a Reason” is one of her strongest ballads to date.
5. My Personal Favorite: “Summer” by Calvin Harris
British DJ Calvin Harris has been delivering hit after hit, and it looks like he’s on a roll once again with our new summer anthem, aptly titled “Summer.” I don’t think there’s another song on the charts that makes me think about poolside fun and long days at the beach with my family and friends more than this one! Plus, the beat is fun and the lyrics are clean enough that my children can sing along, too.
