Al Roker will soon know all too well the NYC Marathon course! At 56 years old, the father of 3 and most famous weather man around will run his very first marathon. He spoke with That’s Fit about why he decided to run a marathon and whether he thinks of himself as a runner or not!
“I would not call myself a runner — I am someone who decided to run the marathon. I’m just someone who is getting one foot in front of the other and trying to cross the finish line. I haven’t experienced the runners’ high, I don’t know about the endorphins — I don’t know where they are — I’m really annoyed! Everyone talks about the runners’ high, and I’m just like, “I don’t have it; leave me alone.”
When asked if he was nervous about finishing Roker responded;
“Very nervous. The longest I’ve run is 20 miles. And everyone says if you run 20, you can run 26. I don’t get that. I’ve never run on a treadmill; I only run outdoors. I don’t like loops; I like to run along the Hudson River.”
And when asked if he had any goals “To finish. Time is irrelevant.”
That’s a great mindset to have. I’m a runner (well, sometimes anyway) but the most I have ever run is 15 km, and there’s no way I would ever even attempt a marathon! Good for him! He’s also running for his charity, the Cavalry Hospital.
Good Luck Al!
