Anne Hathaway Catwoman: Why She Was Cast as Selina Kyle
The cast of the third Batman film by Christopher Nolan has been announced and there was one big name attached to this new installment? The one and only Anne Hathaway. But is she right for the job?
To many, Anne Hathaway is much more America’s sweetheart than Batman’s Selina Kyle aka Catwoman. Past Catwomen have included Halle Berry, Michelle Pfeiffer and Eartha Kitt, but Anne Hathaway who is known for roles more like The Devil Wears Prada and The Princess Diaries will go out of character playing Selina Kyle. So what was she selected?
“She definitely has the [acting] chops,” the studio source said. “She can ‘go there’ with this role. Obviously, Chris [Nolan] sees something in her that’s fantastic that we haven’t seen or have seen … plus Hathaway has longevity, a steady career arc and growth in appearing in big films.”

She’s perfect. You didn’t mention her other films… but anyone who’s been watching her career so far is aware she has the depth and ability to go dark and deep with characters. I always thought Michelle Pfeiffer was the perfect Catwoman… I think she may be passing that crown! I’m a straight female… but Anne Hathaway makes a gal question her sexuality! hahahaha
I like Anne Hathaway, but I guess we’ll have to be surprised. We can see her as Selina Kyle, but Catwoman – eh not so much. Michelle Pfeiffer dominated that role and made it iconic.
