How time flies!
It was just a few years ago that Maci Bookout was making her debut on the original 16 and Pregnant, a teen coping with new motherhood and her rocky relationship with the dad of her son, Bentley Cadence Edwards. Now that the final season of the first Teen Mom is about to air, Maci notes that the audience will “finally see us as women…In the last season, we’ve all grown up so much.”
In an exclusive video interview with Us Weekly, Maci adds that the children we once knew as babies in the first season are getting past toddlerhood now. “They’re like little people – they’re not babies anymore…They’re just little adults walking around. That’s really exciting to watch.”
Now three, Bentley is reaching all kinds of milestones – like playing T-ball and riding his bike without training wheels! But one big step he’s taken recently is especially bittersweet for his young mom.
“He’ll start kindergarten next year. It’s wild,” says Maci, who adds that just sending him to daycare two days a week was “terrible.”
She explains, “I wanted him to go so he would have a couple days of the week where he was just playing and could meet kids his age.” But even a short separation was a big deal for a mother and son used to spending every waking minute together. “Those first few days were pretty rough on both of us,” she admits.
But while she may be moving on and the show ending, the relationship Maci developed with her fellow castmates goes on. “Catelynn and Farrah and Amber, we’re all so close,” she says. “We’re all teen moms, and then we’re all in this crazy thing together, so we have a really strong bond with each other. I don’t think that I’m gonna lose them ever.”
What’s your take? Are you sorry to see the original Teen Mom end?
