This past May, America’s toughest trainer Jillian Michaels took on the most difficult challenge she’s ever been faced with becoming a mom to not only one child, but two.
In the past, her time was spent promoting a healthy and fit lifestyle, for her fans and followers. Now that she’s a mom, it’s becoming a bit more personally challenging to not only take care of her kids but herself as well. I had the chance to chat with Jillian and get the scoop on some fun tips to stay in shape and a connect with your partner!
What kind of workout do you recommend for other new moms that they can do at home to get in shape?
First they must get cleared to work out after delivery. Once their doc gives them the thumbs up I recommend they kick things back in gear as quickly as possible.
The reality is baby weight requires the same type of diet and exercise regimen as regular weight loss. Hit the weight room, take a BODYSHRED class, grab a spin class, etc.
You’re incredibly busy these days, how do you balance a raising two young children and a hectic work life, and still have any energy left to live the healthy lifestyle you promote?
Yes, having a baby and a toddler at home definitely keeps things busy. Between work and family it can be tough to get a workout in sometimes. But I am motivated by my desire to be healthy for my family and to set a good example for my kids. I work a workout in wherever and whenever I can. Some days Heidi and I will take turns watching the kids so the other can go to the gym. Or my mom will come over for some grandma time and I’ll get exercise in then. While not ideal, I will even hit the treadmill while I answer emails. Sometimes I do a workout DVD.
My Body Revolution fitness DVDs are killer and I’ll put one of those in and go. (Something that seems to entertain my daughter immensely.) I also do what I can to be active WITH the kids. I take my daughter out with me on the paddle board, or the baby for a hike in the Bjorn. It is important for me to find ways to be active as a family. It sets the kids up for good habits now. I also do what I can to keep my energy up through my fuel. I try to eat extremely clean, organics when I can, and makes sure I’m getting the proper balance of protein, fat and carbs. And I do love EBOOST. It is an all-natural clean energy drink that has vitamins, nutrients and green tea extract to give me an energy punch. It comes in handy packets that I can just stick in my bag and mix with water on the go (which is pretty much always.)
How do you and Heidi carve out quality time:
Grandparents!!! We make them baby sit! Then go out a grab a drink together, talk and catch up.
