Jenna Bush Hager, daughter of George W. Bush, gave the former President his first grandchild last night.
The former President made a statement (quoted by Us Weekly): “Laura and I are thrilled to announce the birth of our grandchild, Margaret Laura ‘Mila’ Hager,” he said. “Mila, daughter of Jenna and Henry Hager, is named for her grandmothers. She was born last night, April 13, at 8:43 p.m. in New York City.”
This morning, the “elated” grandparents went to visit the new arrival, and they report that both mother and baby are doing fine.
Jenna announced her pregnancy on the Today show when she was five months along, saying she was “obviously nervous,” but still thrilled and excited.
Little Mila will be surrounded by plenty of love, particularly from her famous maternal grandparents, her aunt Barbara (Jenna’s twin sister) and great-grandparents George H.W. and Barbara Bush.
Congratulations to the new parents!
