Good grief. The way people are carrying on about Beyonce and Jay-Z’s choice in names for their baby girl, you’d think they were the first famous parents to ever – um – let’s say, think outside of the box when they filled out the birth certificate.
Surely you’ve heard of Pilot Inspektor? Fifi Trixiebelle? Dweezil? Audio Science? Moxie Crimefighter? Jermajesty? Compared to them, Blue Ivy Carter sounds positively pedestrian. (Somewhere, a famous child is asking her mom, “Why couldn’t you have named me something normal like Blue Ivy?”)
Why, little Blue isn’t even the first celebrity’s child to be named after a color. Remember this little sweetheart here? That’s wee Bear Blu, son of Alicia Silverstone. Guy’s coming up on his first birthday, and he’s probably relieved that he’s no longer the center of attention as far as “what-were-they-thinking” names are concerned. It’s barely 2012, and there are a lot of other famous moms-to-be who have their chance to outdo the Carters.
Point is, notable parents have been inspired by colors and plants for years when it comes to naming. (I don’t count Rose, which is such a popular choice that it’s not considered the least bit unusual. And I’m not just saying that because it also happens to be my daughter’s middle name.)
