Book Em Danno – Remembering Hawaii Five-O Star James MacArthur

james macarthurBook ‘em Danno.  The actor who played the iconic “Danno” role in the original Hawaii Five-o, James MacArthur, passed away earlier today at the age of 72.   

MacArthur was born to a theater family as the son of actress Helen Hayes and playwright Charles MacArthur.  He made his acting debut at the age of 8 in a summer stock production of The Corn is Green.

“They did teach me a lot about the theatre just through my life with them,” MacArthur had said of his famous parents. “They never pushed me in any direction. Any major decision has always been my own to make.”

 His career in acting spanned more than four decades with stints both on television and Broadway.    Despite other career highs, MacArthur will forever live on in his iconic role of Detective Danny “Danno” Williams on Hawaii Five-O.     His film career included the Disney hits Swiss Family Robinson and Kidnapped.

Off the screen, MacArthur was a dedicated family man.  He is survived by his wife of 25-years, Helen Beth (H.B.) Duntz, four children and seven grandchildren.
