Patrick Swayze died today after a long, brave battle with cancer. He was 57. The actor was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in January 2008 and since then had endured endless tabloid speculation about his condition.
Swayze’s publicist Annett Wolf says the actor died at home with his family by his side. He had been married to his wife Lisa Niemi for 34 years.
Although the couple never had children, Swayze opened up in an interview a few years ago about their dreams of adopting. “I was born to be a dad and we have the perfect life for kids,” he said.”I have started taking adults into the mountains on packhorse trips. I love that ability to survive off the land and it changes these peoples’ lives when they re-connect with the earth. Adults enjoy it so much, so I can only imagine what it would be like for kids.
“We are still thinking of adopting, but you have to consider the child and not yourself. Living on a ranch teaches you a great deal about the cycle of life and, if you adopt a child, you have to be certain it is for the right reason.”
So sad that dream was never fulfilled, and he was taken at such a fairly young age. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
