Poison rocker, rock of lover, and dad Bret Michaels suffered a brain hemorrhage early Thursday night and is currently in the ICU. His ex-girlfriend Kristi Lynn Gibson and his two daughters, Raine, 9 ½, and Jorja, 4 ½, are reportedly by his side in the hospital.
The source of the bleeding has not been located, but he is under the 24 hour care and supervision of doctors. “Bret is a fighter and we are hopeful that once all is complete the slurred speech, blurred vision and dizziness, etc., will be eliminated and all functions will return to normal,” reads a post on BretMichaels.com.
A brain hemorrhage can be caused when an undetected aneurysm, or enlarged artery in the brain, ruptures suddenly, a subarachnoid hemorrhage – which refers to the area of the brain where the bleeding occurs. These types of hemorrhages are fatal in half of all cases. Bret’s doctors are still trying to find the source of the bleeding, though he has been stabilized. Once located, they can treat it with surgery.
Our thoughts are with him and we wish for his speedy recovery.
Bret is set to receive an honorary ‘Father of the Year’ award from the American Diabetes Association in June for his work raising awareness and money to find a cure for diabetes. Both he and his daughter Raine suffer from the disease. A friend of Bret’s tells PopEater.com: “When all this is complete, you can bet Bret will say goodbye to the rock star lifestyle and focus on what means the most to him — being a great dad.”
