I wonder if when MCA aka Adam Yauch was alive, in the midst of being a Beastie Boy, he would have ever thought that he would have a park named after him. But that’s just what happened on Friday when a small Brooklyn park was renamed Adam Yauch Park.
Adam Yauch remarkable life was cut short at the age of 47 after losing a battle with cancer. Not only was Adam Yauch a talented musician and vocalist, fighter for the Tibetan independence movement but he was a loving father.
To pay tribute to Yauch, the park that had been named Palmetto Playground was renamed Adam Yauch Park with a ceremony featuring his bandmate Adam Horovitz, aka Ad-Rock, who said “how cool it is to have an Adam Yauch Park for other crazy New York kids.” The park was where, as USA Today notes, Adam Yauch spent much of his “formative years.” Adam Youch’s mother was there and made a moving speech. “All the kids he knew in the ’80s had bands; that’s what kids did,” she said. “Adam made us so proud of him, and I’m proud to have this park in his name.”
