Cake Time! Kate Gosselin Blogs About the Sextuplets' BirthdayShana Aborn
This yummy-looking confection here is the birthday cake marking a milestone in the life of a famous reality-TV family.
On Friday, the Gosselin sextuplets turned eight years old – and their proud mom Kate can’t believe how far they’ve come since they were born prematurely back in 2004, weighing just a little over two pounds each.
“I can absolutely say that not a day goes by that I don’t think about the true miracle that is Alexis Faith, Hannah Joy, Aaden Jonathan, Collin Thomas, Leah Hope and Joel Kevin!” Kate writes in her latest blog on her website.
She recalls the challenges that came with carrying six babies at once – 23 weeks of bed rest lying on her side, the sunburn-like discomfort of her stretched-out belly, breathlessness and nausea.
“But I think just before I gave birth to my six precious babies, my scrapping tenacious never-give-up determination was born,” Kate writes. “I’ve carried it with me and even further refined it over the years…It’s my story [of] how I became a mom.”
So how did the six brand-new eight-year-olds celebrate their big day?
Since the family is no longer a TV staple, the only camera in attendance was Kate’s, as she snapped pictures of the kids opening presents and blowing out their candle at home. (She encountered a minor roadblock when she ran out of baking powder as she was preparing to cook, but a trip to the store solved the problem.)
Of course, the sextuplets got gifts from Mom – her site shows the girls beaming over pretty backpacks – but the best part of all was watching them open presents that their older sisters, twins Mady and Cara, had selected themselves – Lego games for the boys and hand-me-down American Girl doll clothes for the girls.
“As a mom, I was so moved as I watched the careful planning and consideration behind which girl would receive which gift,” Kate says. “…They demonstrated such giving spirits and received much joy from their little sisters’ excited and grateful reactions!”
She concludes, “I am proud of my kids – all 8 of them – and am so blessed to have had each one here with me, happy and healthy, for another year!”
Wonder if she needs any help from a hungry fellow mom-blogger to finish the leftover cake?
Happy birthday, Gosselin Six!
