Cancel the Bump Watch! Prince William and Kate Middleton Have No Baby Plans Yet

The newlyweds may not be ready to be new parents.

Roughly 4.2 seconds after Prince William and Kate Middleton cut the cake at their beautiful wedding last April, the wait began for any sign that the royal couple might be expecting an heir.

The buzz grew louder in the fall. September brought a report that the Duchess of Cambridge was expecting twins. Then in November, suspicions rose again after Kate turned down a taste of peanut paste – supposedly to prevent nut allergies in a developing fetus – and the British laws of succession were abruptly changed to permit the firstborn daughter of an heir to inherit the throne.

But here it is almost February – just two months before the Duke and Duchess’s first anniversary – and the palace hasn’t yet released the official Babies ‘R’ Us registry list. What’s going on?

A new report says that the royal couple have chosen to wait a while before starting their family.

Here’s why:

According to the British magazine Now, William and Kate have decided to postpone their baby plans so they can put their energies into helping plan the grand celebrations surrounding Queen Elizabeth‘s Diamond Jubilee this year. A source says, “Realistically there is not going to be time for a baby and they have said they are in no hurry.”

The source points out that there are already two heirs to the throne – William comes second to his father, Prince Charles – so there isn’t an urgent need to produce another successor.

The prince’s upcoming tour of duty in the Falkland Islands will also take him away from his bride for six weeks in February and March. During that time, she’ll be appearing alone for the first time at events benefiting her chosen charities.

So it’s unlikely that we’ll be hearing any baby news until spring at the earliest. And if they choose to wait even longer to add to the royal line, what of it? They’re both young (Kate just turned 30), and they seem to be having a good time simply being a married couple.

Besides, we Yanks need at least a few months more to recover from the excitement of our own royally hyped celebrity tots: Blue Ivy Carter, plus the offspring of Jessica Simpson, Kourtney Kardashian and Jennifer Garner.

If Kate can wait, so can we.
