Can’t We Just Leave Kim Kardashian’s Baby North West (and Her Eyebrows) Alone?

North west eyebrowsKim Kardashian cannot win. When Kim and Kanye West opted to delay releasing photos of their baby North West, the public (and the media) were up in arms that they took so long. And then when they did finally share photos of their adorable baby, this innocent infant got caught in the crossfire of celebrity culture.

The newest piece of ridiculousness comes after Kim Kardashian posted a photo of North West (left) with the caption, “Smile.” It was totally adorable. But not everyone thought so.

Comments on Kim Kardashian’s Facebook page ranged from:

“Ok her eyebrows are too perfect? Makes me wonder ..”

“That baby has some major brows”

“Adorable”

“KIM YOUR BABY IS UGLY…”

Yup, an all caps insult to Kim’s baby, comments on cuteness, all sprinkled with lots and lots of eyebrow talk. Yes, eyebrow talk. This a fricken’ baby and oodles of adults had the time, energy, and inclination to comment — in both positive and negative ways — about North West’s eyebrows on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. No wonder Kim Kardashian waited to unveil her baby with all the hateful comments spewing, not unlike diarrhea, towards her offspring. If I was her I would have NEVER shared photos of my baby. EVER. But here’s the thing: the Kardashians are a business and their family, their lives, and their children are a part of it. As reality stars, they’re famous for being famous, like it or not, and their kids are part of the equation.

Other celebrities, of the non-reality TV variety, have been able to shelter their children more. After Pink’s daughter Willow was born, she went onto her website and made it clear that her daughter would not be part of the celebrity machine.  “Here’s the bottom line: we don’t want you to take our little girl’s picture,” Pink writes. “We don’t want you to one day follow our little girl home from school. We don’t want our little girl’s picture in a magazine or on a blog. If you take or publish her picture, it is against our wishes, and without our consent as parents, as people.”

It was Kim Kardashian who ultimately chose to post photos of North West, and she’s been in the public eye long enough to know that posting this photo, or any, runs the risk of mean and cruel things being said about her daughter. And as we all know, “haters are gonna hate,” be it Kanye’s new single, the new Kardashian Kollection at Sears, or images of baby North West. It’s even been scientifically proven. A study published in the Journal of Personality states: “those who already hold a lot of negative views are more likely to react negatively to new stimuli.” So really, there is no winning for Kim Kardashian, baby North West, or those impeccable eyebrows.

Why do you think people feel the need to say such mean things about a baby?

Update:
Kim Kardashian went to Twitter to address the rumors that she waxed North West’s eyebrows saying: “Do people really think I would wax my daughters eyebrows so young? Come on, I’d wait until she’s at least 2 1/2!” But then people, of course, didn’t get her joke so she had to follow it up with this tweet: “I’m kidding!!! Its pretty sick for people to insinuate that I would wax my daughters eyebrows. They are thick, natural and amazing!”
