'The Smurfs' Reemerge Through Facebook

We all know and love cartoons. They are one of our favorite past times growing up and many of these characters will forever be stuck in our memories.

In honor of posting cartoon pictures to your Facbeook profile, I decided to make a list of my all-time favorite cartoon characters from the 80′s the era I was born. Yes, I know some of these originated earlier than the 80′s, but that’s when I watched them.

1. The Smurfs

The Smurfs are a group of over 100 bluish, three-apple tall creatures who live in the mushroom homes of Smurf Village. They are led by 543-year-old Papa Smurf (who doesn’t look a day over 530). Their lives would be perfect were it not for the villainous Gargamel, a wizard who spends his days trying to capture them to eat, turn into gold, or for some other evil reason.

2. Ren and Stimpy

An intense, hyperactive chihuahua and a happy-go-lucky, empty-brained cat share bizarre and often repulsive adventures. Their experiences usually involve hairballs, filthy litterboxes, “magic nose goblins”, sentient farts, jars of spit, outhouses, eating dirt, monkey vermin and any other imaginable disgusting substance.

3. Fraggle Rock

Yes, I know this was not a cartoon. But, when it comes to the 80′s and childhood memories this show is by far at the top of the list. The Fraggles, humanoid creatures about 18 inches tall, come in a wide variety of colors and have tails that bear a tuft of fur on the end. They live in a system of caves called Fraggle Rock – caves filled with all manner of creatures and features, and which seem to connect to at least two different worlds that exist in different dimensions of time and space.

What is your favorite character from the 80′s?
