Jessica Simpson was bullied as a child.

It gets better. While that statement may be hard to fathom by the average school-aged kid, it’s a sentiment that’s proven true by the many celebrity parents who were bullied as a child.

With the release of the new movie Bully, (in which we happened to speak with the director) bullying is being brought to the forefront of everyday news. It’s an epidemic that needs to be stopped. Too many lives are being lost and too many cries are being ignored.

While our own President Barack Obama, along with celebrities such as Lady Gaga, continue to fight the good fight in ending bullying, we’d like to showcase a list of celebrity parents who were bullied as a child. If nothing more, we hope it serves as a catalyst to prove that “it [life] gets better.”

Jessica Simpson got her first record deal at age 13. Unfortunately, the record company went under and her album was never released. Thus, her friends considered her a liar. “I would walk down the school halls and hear people talking about me. Some of them would throw toilet paper at my house or throw eggs at my door,” she said. “They would also write things on the sidewalk in permanent marker. They really hated me.”
