When she became John McCain’s running mate in 2008, the former Alaskan governor skyrocketed into the media faster than Suri Cruise’s shoe collection. And whether you love or hate her, it’s no secret she was under constant fire as a politician and a mom. While some questioned her ability to handle the vice-president role with five children in tow – one who was pregnant, another with Down’s Syndrome – others related to her conservative roots. Whether or not she was prepared to run the country is up for debate, but hey, at least the woman can laugh at herself (Sarah joined look-alike mom Tina Fey on SNL). But she can only be pushed so far: The claws came out when David Letterman made an inappropriate joke about one of her daughters getting “knocked up” at a Yankees game. But take away the politics and the gossip, the media blunders and parodies, and she’s still a mother trying to run a house full of children – that’s something we can all sympathize with.
