Welcome to the world, Edward Duke Rancic!
The rather nobly-named little boy was born to proud parents Bill and Giuliana Rancic last night at 10:12 PM. “The ‘Duke’ has landed!” Bill tweeted this morning. “Edward Duke Rancic was welcomed into the world last night at 7lbs 4oz. G & I feel blessed beyond words…We did it!”
Last night, he also alerted fans that their gestational surrogate had gone into labor.
According to E!News, where Giuliana is a host, Bill cut the umbilical cord after Edward emerged, and Giuliana was the first to hold him.
It’s the happy end to a long and often tearful journey that included unsuccessful fertility treatments and Giuliana’s shocking breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.
They finally opted to have their embryos implanted into a gestational surrogate who lives in Denver – a city close to their heart, since it was there that Giuliana met with the fertility specialist who urged her to have a mammogram.
The couple spent their excited final pre-parenthood days in a luxurious mountain-view hotel suite, enjoying a “babymoon” of hikes and romantic dinners.
But now it’s all about one very special little boy. Giuliana tells E! that Edward is eating heartily and has already had his first bath.
“Bill and I are blessed beyond words to welcome Edward into our lives,” Giuliana says. “Thank you so much to everyone who supported us along the way. We are so in love with the little guy already!”
What a great day – and don’t you love the name?
Congratulations to the ecstatic new parents!
