“Oh, my god! Awesome!” I’m 98% sure that’s what I screamed out when I found out that Pixar was finally going to revisit Sulley and Mike Wazowski after a twelve year hiatus. And I do believe I also did a happy dance in my home office. See, Monsters, Inc. is my favorite Pixar movie. I can not tell you how many times I’ve seen it. Really, I have no clue. One reason is that I introduced my daughter to Mike and Sulley at a very young age and she’s grown up with them paying a visit to our home. They are close family friends.
I had been anxious for a new Monsters movie, and it turns out it was worth the wait. I’ve seen Monsters University 3. 75 times, and each time I’ve been completely delighted. The film stays true to the spirit and humor of the original, but takes place years before Mike and Sulley ruled the scream floor. Monsters University revisits how the two met in college, from their initial disdain for each other, to their budding friendship. We also meet a slew of new monsters like Art, Squishy and Don Carlton (the mature student) who star alongside monsters like Randall Boggs.
Now, I don’t want to give too much away. But I will tell you that the film is gorgeous (colorful, vibrant and full of life), the story is completely compelling (there are some big surprises) and you’ll love it. Want to know more? Now is your chance to cram for the test – check out our collection of Monsters University features here from how to dress like a monster to how Pixar created the magic.
